China's RoHS has been officially upgraded to a mandatory national standard (GB 26572-2025)
2025-09-03
On August 1, 2025, the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China officially released the "Requirements for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" (GB 26572-2025). This standard will come into effect on August 1, 2027, and fully replace the recommended standard GB/T 26572-2011. This marks the official upgrade of China's RoHS to a mandatory national standard, which is of great significance for the green transformation and sustainable development of China's electrical and electronic industry.
This standard is the first mandatory national standard in the field of RoHS control in China. Its technical content is based on the analysis of relevant policies, regulations in China, as well as the current situation and trends of alternative technologies for hazardous substances in the industry. Integrate and improve the technical contents of the two recommended standards, GB/T 26572-2011 "Limit Requirements for Restricted Substances in Electronic and Electrical Products" and SJ/T 11364-2024 "Marking Requirements for Restricted Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products". The release of this standard marks the full alignment of China's RoHS with the EU's RoHS. It will further encourage enterprises to increase investment in the research and development of green materials and the improvement of production processes, stimulate innovation vitality, and enhance technological levels and product quality. Enterprises that are technologically backward and fail to meet the standard requirements may face elimination.

REACH has added three SVHC substances for review
2025-09-03
On September 1, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the launch of public comments on three SVHC substances of interest. The public comments will end on October 16, 2025. During this period, all stakeholders can submit their comments to ECHA. Including the one substance under review, "decabromodiphenyl ethane", announced on June 27, 2025, there are a total of four substances under review. If these four substances pass the review, they will be added to the candidate list of SVHC substances and become the 35th batch of SVHC substances.
Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 is a regulation of the European Union concerning the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals. It came into effect on June 1, 2007 and is the most complex chemical regulation issued by the European Union to date, aiming to control chemicals and products using chemicals. As a major focus of the REACH regulation, the candidate list of SVHCS has undergone multiple updates since the REACH regulation came into effect.
If the "articles" placed on the EU market contain any SVHC candidate substance with a concentration greater than 0.1%, the EU producer or importer shall fulfill the notification obligation stipulated by the REACH regulation.
If the "article" contains more than 0.1% of SVHC candidate substances and the total amount of such substances entering the EU is more than 1 ton per year, EU producers or importers must notify ECHA.
Moreover, as of January 5, 2021, in accordance with the requirements of the EU's Waste Framework Directive (EU) 2018/851, if an "article" contains more than 0.1% of SVHC candidate substances, article suppliers within the EU must report the information of SVHC substances in the article in the SCIP database of ECHA.
